Coverage: Lin-Manuel Miranda at the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors

[ Written on December 03 2018 by Francesca ]

During the first wekkend of December were celebrated the 2018 Kennedy Center Honors, awards meant to recognize a lifetime of contributions to the arts. This year’s honorees were Cher, composer Philip Glass, country music legend Reba McEntire and jazz icon Wayne Shorter. An unprecedented special award went to the co-creators of “Hamilton” for their genre-bending musical. It was the first time an entity, rather than an individual, was honored.
All four men who received special medals for “Hamilton” — Lin-Manuel Miranda, the creator; Thomas Kail, the director; Andy Blankenbuehler, the choreographer; and Alex Lacamoire, the musical director — remain eligible in the future for their own individual work.
The show will be broadcast on Wednesday, December 26 at 8 p.m. on CBS.

Check out the photos in our Gallery.

The megazine shared a short report of the panel, below you can read the part about Miranda.

Hamilton Tony Award winner Lin-Manuel Miranda who plays lamplighter Jack, a variation on (but a different character) Dick Van Dyke’s Bert in the original movie, said that by the time cameras rolled, “we were a company just like Hamilton.” On the first day of production Blunt and Miranda were handed a hat and a cane for a dance number involving hand-drawn animated penguins, and that in and of itself speaks to Marshall’s point of harking back to the original.

[EDIT] In Gallery you can find a portrait taken during the event!
